Finally out the door to NJ, estimated time of arrival at the hotel: just before midnite.....oh, joy.
Robin called to be sure we were on our way and a reminder: 7am at the barn......she called once more to ask if we could come a bit earlier. Someone's trailer was having issues, would we mind transporting a couple horses.... Of course! Whoo hoo! We get to participate
GPS Jill directed us to the hotel.....in the middle of a still bustling near midnite NJ township which didn't appear to see many horse trailers. Found parking at the hotel, which took up most of a closed store's parking area with the trailer, locked it up and crashed for the nite.
One wakeup call and a cell phone alarm later, up and out the door.
The barn was a very busy place that morning. We met Kim, the initial person I had contacted about Sage and Red. There were several trailers parked about, lots of official people, who I am sorry to say i can't recall all the names as they were very nice people. All were in various stages of staging for the caravan to the adoption site. There was a grey colt with a long dark mane and forelock, a very handsome lil guy in one of the trailers...I later learned his name Was Aspen. Closer inspection of the contents of the trailers, several fillies, sorrels, bays and a cute dun gelding stick out in my mind...then I saw the ears!
Oh my! what big ears you have, I said, as I approached the trailer....I stepped up on the edge to get a better look, calling to Steven to come see. It was Swissy, a burro....not up for adoption, just a frequent visitor to demos and adoptions, an ambassador of sorts. Swissy was quite friendly and was happy to turn around several times so we could see all views: she was quite a character...She got a little bored sanding around waiting for all us humans to get our act together, and she started, um, verbalizing....too cute!
All the horses were in different paddocks than when we were there last. We spotted Sage just before we found out she and her friend Fallon, were assigned to our trailer. With leads on, Robin and Fallon, and Sage and Steven walked both mares right in the trailer with no real discussion. Never felt them move at all back there during the 20-30 minute to the adoption site, and they were loose in a 3 horse slant....with no dividers. This is good!
